He restores my soul!
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame.
Joel 2:25-27 ESV
Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.
Jeremiah 50:34 ESV
In June 2019, I remember reading these two bible verses which strongly resonated with me. I became thankful and rejoiced for this promise of restoration. This was because at one point, I asked God why I had to go through so many setbacks, one after the other. It felt like just when I resolved a matter, another immediately popped up worse than the one before. I was spiritually exhausted.
But, I serve a God who will put me in the fiery furnace and refine my character like gold is refined. He will ensure the spiritual atmosphere is heated to the maximum required so that impurities within me can be purged. And while he did this for my betterment, he didn’t turn a blind eye to the emotional turmoil it caused and to the hope I lost along the way. He saw the stagnancy that resulted in my ministry and the decrease in my prayer, fasting, and bible studying habits.
He saw and he cared. And for those things mentioned, and those unmentioned, he promised to restore me what was lost during the process. Sometimes we question why certain things are happening and lament about how unfair it is to be happening to us because we’ve been so faithful to him. But it may be a process he’s taking you through. And I know that at the end, he will restore you. What a God!
