Unconditional Love with Boundaries

John 15:13
Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Heavenly Father, as we use this week to reflect on You and highlight Your amazing love for us, we ask that You pull us into a closer relationship with You. I ask that this devotion will bless our hearts and minister to us individually. Amen.

As I thought about the concept of unconditional love, one thing stuck with me … How often do we take advantage of this unconditional love that God gives to us? This lead me to my topic…

“Unconditional Love with Boundaries”

We know that God will continue to love us no matter what we do or how often we do it.

But nowhere did He promise to keep us safe, favoured, or blessed if we continuously (repetitive actions) and consistently (making no attempts to change) rebel against Him and refuse to repent when He gives us the opportunity.

Yes, His love is unconditional, but it has boundaries. Meaning that after a while, He’s just going to stop trying to get us to change (repent).

The key verse says He will not always strive with man. In other words, He’s going to stop fight with our inner man to get us to do what is right. He’s going to tell the Holy Spirit to stop being our voice of reason and our conscience.

He will stop….if we don’t repent

In Ezekiel 18:23, God tells us that He finds no pleasure in the death of a sinner. That shows the true passion of His unconditional His love. However, if we read the entire chapter, we will see where God says that if we are sinful when the end comes, we will be rewarded accordingly.

Romans 6:23 say that the wages of sin is death. If we continue to take His love for granted and not change from our sinful ways, thoughts, and pattern…His unconditional love will not save us from death.

Let us be grateful for His love and live a life that reflects this gratitude.

If you love Me, you will keep My commandment <<—that is the boundary within which His love will guarantee us eternal life with Him.

In Deuteronomy 28, God said there is life and death, chose life. Let us persistently dwell in the path of life. By doing so we won’t take His love for granted.

Thank You, Lord, for Your words to us all. Let it saturate our hearts and help us to change in the areas that You have been showing us over the past few weeks. Let Your love be seen, as You said that You rebuke and punish those You love. Amen.
